Thomas Abercrombie would help the Breakers to win the 2010-11 NBL Championship and would also be awarded the Larry Sengstock Medal as the NBL Grand Final Most Valuable Player. Abercrombie was a pivotal member of the 2010-11 New Zealand Breakers who won the NBL Championship that year. Abercrombie also received the honour of being named the recipient of the Larry Sengstock Medal as the Finals series Most Valuable Player.

In 2011-12 Abercrombie improved to be one of the NBLs biggest stars. He was named to the All NBL First Team for the first time in his career. The Breakers also went back to back in 2011-12. Although Abercrombie injured his ankle in game 3 against the Crocs, the series before the finals. He missed out on game 1 of the NBL finals, he returned for game 2 and 3 but was not playing at his regular season level.

In 2012-13 Thomas played well but inconsistent to start the season. Despite this he was still selected to the 2013 All Star game, also participated in the dunk comp. In the new year Abercrombie picked up his game, scoring double figures in 10 of the first 11 games. The Breakers kept winning, setting a franchise record 16 straight wins. They swept through the playoffs to win their third straight title.

The Breakers struggled throughout the 2013-14 season after losing league MVP Cedric Jackson. Abercrombie played well throughout the season and averaged a career high 15.5 points per game. However New Zealand missed out on the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
