Taipans Focus On First Win

As round 3 starts in the 2016-17, the Cairns Taipans are the only team sitting without a victory in the young season.

The Snakes narrowly lost their first two games, one in overtime in a hostile Perth Arena to the Wildcats and another to the Sydney Kings thanks to some red hot shooting by Jason Cadee.

However the Taipans have not lost faith just yet.

Cairns plays Adelaide this round and are very aware of how dangerous they are and how they can slow the them down as Nate Jawai told the media this week.

“The have a lot of bodies also they get up and down. A lot of energy, young guys.

They have DJ and Matt, also young kid Terrence Ferguson, he’s long and athletic can get up and down the floor then you have Jerome which is a nightmare, you know he’s tough getting in the open court then you have Nathan Sobey so they’re going to get up and down.”

Team captain Cam Gliddon has stepped up his game this season, averaging a little over 16 ppg and 4 rpg, however he is aware the team has a way to go and does not care about achieving any personal awards.

“I think we’ve come a long way but we definitely have a long way to go..

I think we’re growing every day but we didn’t show too much poise down the stretch in the Sydney game so we’re going to have to improve on that. But Adelaide are a very strong team, very youthful, they get up and down really hard so our defensive transitions got to be on the money.

.. We’re just trying to get a win right now, no personal accolades matter right now, we’re just trying to get on the board.”

Cairns travel to Adelaide on Friday to take on Jerome Randle and his Adelaide 36ers. You can see the snakes try to get their first win of the season on Fox Sports or on NBL TV.
