Fresh from leading his European club team Regal FC Barcelona to the Spanish league title, former National Basketball League Rookie of the Year Joe Ingles has confirmed he will be joining the Australian Boomers men’s national basketball team in time for their three-match series against Greece which starts this Sunday at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena.
Ingles had eight points in his team’s 73-69 Game Five victory over Real Madrid that clinched the Spanish title for Barcelona on the weekend. The South Australian is wasting no time however in jetting back to Australia to join his Boomers teammates in time for The Farewell Series against Greece.
Ingles’ availability for the series is a further boost to Australia’s preparations for London after NBA star Patty Mills confirmed he would also be available to play in The Farewell Series last week.
Ingles is now expected to fly direct to Melbourne where the Boomers will open their training camp tomorrow (Tuesday 19 June). After he has passed a screening by the Boomers coaching and medical staff, he will then be declared eligible to play against Greece.
The Farewell Series will commence with a double-header with the Jayco Australian Opals at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena on 24 June. The Boomers will also play Greece at the State Basketball Centre in Knox on 25 June and the Geelong Arena on 27 June. Tickets for the Geelong and Knox Boomers’ games have already sold-out, with limited tickets still available for the Hisense Arena match.
