Wollongong Welcome Back Gary Ervin

erving_gary

The Wollongong Hawks have announced their first import signing for the new season, former Hawks player and former league MVP, Gary Ervin.

This will be Ervin’s second stint with the foundation club after he played for Wollongong in 2010-11, winning the league’s MVP award as well as being selected to the All-NBL First Team. That season Ervin averaged 20.1 ppg, 4.5 apg, 3.4 rpg and 1.3 spg, however Wollongong missed out on the playoffs.

Last season Ervin played for the Adelaide 36ers and helped them to the NBL Finals where they would lose to the Perth Wildcats 2-1. Ervin was in MVP form early last season until a slump saw him fall out of MVP contention.

At the end of last season Ervin announced via Twitter that he would not be returning to Adelaide but made no secret that he has always wanted to stay in Australia and last season even mentioned becoming naturalised.

Wollongong’s roster now stands at: Oscar Forman, Dave Gruber, Larry Davidson, Brad Hill, Adam Ballinger, Tim Coenraad and Gary Ervin (Import).

Good pick up, another MVP award coming for the Hawks, Gordie is best coach of guards in the league, But we need a big man that can score consistently or we will go nowhere anyway. Hopefully balls has a stellar year?

negativity or reality? Had a brain fart at the business end of last season and went missing in Perth in both games! It's all nice to be flashy in the season, but he chocked when it mattered

I'd rather have him than Wilson, but I'd be happy to see they Hawks have some success. I just hope he an keep calm, and doesn't have another brain fart. You'd be naive to think that Perth and/or Melbourne will try to bait him
