- Updated: October 21, 2013
The Adelaide 36ers gave the Cairns Taipans their first loss of the season after they defeated the Snakes 87 – 84 in Cairns on Friday night.
The Snakes came out firing in the 1st quarter and lead by as many as 16 points, thanks to big man duo Alex Loughton and Cameron Tragardh who combined for 38 points for the game.
But the 36ers turned the game around in the 2nd quarter, clamping down on defense and outscoring the Taipans 30-15 going into half time.
It was a see-sawing second half for both teams as Gary Ervin & Stephen Weigh both struggled for their respective teams, until Mitch Creek & Adam Gibson rallied the 36ers to go on a 16-6 run in the 4th quarter, taking the lead for good late in the 4th.
Stephen Weigh had a chance to tie the game in the dying seconds but missed the final shot for the Taipans.
It was a team effort by Adelaide with 6 players scoring in double figures, lead by Creek who came off the bench to score 14 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Jarrid Frye was impressive for the 6ers. He had 13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.
Gary Ervin struggled to find his shot the whole game, going just 2/10 from the field, but he did pick up 6 assists and 5 rebounds for Adelaide.
For the Snakes, they were lead by Alex Loughton who scored 22 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
With Cam Gliddon out for the game with a injury, Jamar Wilson started his first game of the season. He played well and ended the game with 17 points and 6 rebounds.
Cam Tragardh played well in the first half but dropped off in the second half. He scored 16 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds.
Stephen Weigh played over 22 minutes for the game but struggled all game. Going 0/10 from the field. He finished the game with 2 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Next round the 36ers will take on defending champs the NZ Breakers and the Sydney Kings.

What we think
Even though it’s still very early in the season the Taipans are looking pretty good, so far. They sit 2nd on the ladder at 2-0 after beating the Townsville Crocs and the NZ Breakers.
Adelaide are 1-1 after they defeated the Wollongong Hawks last round in Adelaide.
The 36ers are at full strength where as the Taipans have a couple of small injuries to Gliddon and Trigger. Both will likely play however will unlikely be at 100%, which could effect the Snakes as they both play such a large part of their offense.
Adelaide are just too deep and are too strong at the guard position with Ervin, Gibson and Cadee. You also have Frye that can play the 2 if needed. Even though this is in Cairns we have the 36ers getting up in this one and are predicting DJ to score 22 – 28 points.
