LaMelo Ball Signs With Hawks

The Illawarra Hawks have announced one of the clubs biggest signings since Doug Overton in the early 90s, 17 year old 6 foot 6 guard LaMelo Ball.

Ball signs under the Next Star program which means he does not actually take up an import position on the team, leaving the option for 2 more imports to sign if the Hawks want.

Ball was committed to follow his brothers paths and play for UCLA, however after a shoplifting controversy surrounding his older brother saw him suspended, Ball’s father decided to take both of the brothers out of UCLA and sent them to Lithuania to play professionally.

In Lithuania, the then 16 year old Ball struggled to play against grown men in a lower talented league. Averaging just 6 ppg on 26% from the field. The Ball family would leave Lithuania to join the JBA, which was run by their father LaVar Ball.

In the JBA LaMelo was able to play as he wanted and averaged 39 ppg, 14.6 rpg, 11.5 apg whilst playing 46 mpg.

LaMelo is the youngest of the Ball brothers and the son of the famous or infamous LaVar Ball.

The Ball family also have a reality show on Facebook Watch called ‘Ball in the Family’
